Bozeman Fly Fishing Guide Tristan Wickland

I grew up exploring the high mountain peaks, lakes and rivers of Colorado where I gained a love and appreciation for the outdoors that I now enjoy sharing with others.

By the time I was done with elementary school I had already contracted a fly fishing addiction. By 15 I was actively working in a fly shop called the Blue Quill in Evergreen Colorado and was diagnosed there with having “The Bug”. During this time at the Blue Quill I started tying flies, building fly rods and deepening my fishing knowledge. Through the rest of my years in Colorado I fished every day I could and pursued a career in the sport of Biathlon where I won a few state championships and even a national championship, looking back it was quite the distraction from fishing.

I moved to Montana in 2020 to attend Montana State University and currently study Business Management when the rivers are frozen. I instantly fell in love with the wild places of Montana and want to give back what they have given me in the years since.

No two days are quite the same but every day on the water feels like the first. I have a relaxed attitude and a patient approach toward teaching. Whether it's dry flies or nymphs, freestone or tailwater, having a good day on the river is the catch for me.
